What We're About
WHO IS PAT McFARLAND? In 1969, Pat McFarland graduated from JFKennedy HS in Willingboro, NJ and chose to play basketball at St. Joseph's University in Philadelphia, PA. His career there speaks for itself as he is now a member of the South Jersey High School Basketball Hall of Fame; St. Joseph's University Basketball Hall of Fame; St. Joseph's All Sports Hall of Fame; and the Philadelphia Big 5 Hall of Fame. Pat also played 3 years of professional basketball in Denver and San Diego.
Pat teamed with Mike Bantom at SJU and was the ouside scorer for arguably one of the best inside/outside duos in college basketball history. Upwards of 85% of all of Pat's shots were jumpers from 15-20ft from the basket.
WHAT IS PURE SHOOTING? Pure Shooting is a technique Pat developed the summer before his senior year at SJU. After averaging 20 PPG and shooting 50% from the field as a Freshman at SJU (remember Freshman couldn't play varsity in those days), Pat moved to the varsity team and averaged 17 & 18 points respectively as a Sophomore and Junior. However, Pat shot just under 41% and 44% in each of those years in spite of the amount of practice he put into his shooting.
The fact is, Pat was now playing against bigger, stronger, quicker and faster players and although he was a good JUMP/SET/SHOOT shooter, he realized the need to have a quicker and higher release if he were going to move on in his career.
Rebuilding his shot from the JUMP to the RELEASE POINT, Pat streamlined his shooting motion into one fluid, uninterupted motion that earned him the label of a PURE SHOOTER in his senior year. Pat was St. Joe's leading scorer in 1973 averaging 20.3 PPG, but more impressively, shooting almost 90% of his shots from 15-20 feet, Pat shot 53.8% from the field.
WHAT ARE WE ABOUT? After 40 years, Pat wants to raise the level of shooting consistency on all levels of the game of basketball by teaching the PURE SHOOTING technique and the drills necessary to learn the technique. Call or Contact Pat for more information.
